In this time where we are confined to be close to home, I thought I would challenge everyone to pay attention to what is around them here in Comstock Park, Michigan. I have been particularly focused on the area around Dwight Lydell Park. Here are a set of questions I challenge everyone to explore with family, friends, and the iinternet—especially children home from school! Send me what you find and I will continue to post it on this blog.

The Creek:

What memories do you have of the creek? And do you have photos of the creek from the past? How has it changed over time?

The mill:

How does a mill work? And what did the mill look like here? Were the ponds part of it? And was the cement along the creek part of a retaining pond?

When was the Mill Creek mill active?

Who build it? What did it produce? lumber? grain?

The Train Station: (I have learned it was not a train station, but part of a fish hatchery and that the building is where the Grand Rapids Model Railroad Historical Society meets.)

There are two stone pillars—were these the entrance to the fish hatchery and were the ponds part of it?

The Streets:

Who are Lamaroux, Betty, Bud, Robert, Imogene, and Mabel?

Spring:

As spring comes, can you find and identify trees and plants as they arise and take pictures of them? If you need a guide for the trees, I can send you one from my daughter who is a teacher.
